G. N. Blain was born in 1985. He began studying violin at age 11 and piano at age 16. He currently studies composition at Ohio University with Dr. Mark Phillips. In addition to composition, he also studies organ with Dr. Paul Barte, piano with Professor Andre Gribou, and plays viola in the Ohio University Symphony Orchestra with Professor Steven Huang. A major tool that Mr. Blain uses for composing is the art of improvisation. He hopes to incorporate this fruitful technique into the majority of his soon to be initiated works. Mr. Blain believes music is life, life is improv, therefore music is soley improv, in terms of performance, composition or otherwise.
