Geoff Knorr (b.6/13/1985) is a young composer of contemporary concert music completing graduate studies in Composition and undergraduate studies in recording arts and sciences at the Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. His composition professors at Peabody have thus far included Christopher Theofanidis and Michael Hersch. Since the creation of his first composition at age 13, Mr. Knorr's works have been performed across the country including professional performances by the Hartford Symphony Orchestra as part of their Talcott Mountain Music Festival and student performances at Humboldt State University in Arcata, CA, the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, MD, and Wheeler High School in Marietta, GA. Mr. Knorr's "Hymn" for three cellos was performed at the 2004 ASCAP Ninth Annual Foundation Awards Concert at the Walter Reade Theater at Manhattan's Lincoln Center. The "Hymn" for three cellos was also featured on The Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies “Discover SAIS” DVD. Mr. Knorr has been the recipient of a 2004 ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award, Humboldt State University Brass Workshop Composition Competition Award, and an Ada Arens Morawetz Memorial Award in Composition. In addition to composing, Mr. Knorr is also an amateur cellist, having played in the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, as well as an amateur pianist, guitarist, and bass guitarist. He also often plays cello with singer/songwriters in the Baltimore area. Mr. Knorr holds a BM in Music Composition from the Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University.
