Originally from Southern California, Julie Barwick now lives and works in San Francisco. She graduated from University of California, Berkeley and has studied with composers Cindy Cox, Henry Threadgill and, most recently, Belinda Reynolds. She also maintains an active teaching schedule and is a member of MTAC (Music Teachers' Association of California). Drawing inspiration from classical and jazz genres, Barwick is interested in combining notated music with elements of improvisation. She has written for chamber music ensembles as well as experimental jazz groups.
