Dear Members,
Save the dates! From June 10-14, 2008, the performing arts community is “Taking Action Together” at the National Performing Arts Convention (NPAC) in Denver, Colorado. Nearly 5,000 composers, musicians, actors, administrators, conductors, producers, dancers, trustees, managers, marketers, critics, businesses, educators, directors, fundraisers and agents are coming together to build a stronger performing arts community for the future. The American Music Center and the American Composers Forum invite and urge you to attend.
Two major themes of the convention are ArtsTown 2028, a vision for the future of arts in local communities presented by the city of Denver, and a three-day Town Hall Meeting overseen by AmericaSpeaks, during which every convention delegate (this means you!) will have an opportunity to have his or her voice heard in drafting the arts advocacy agenda for the next four years. For our composer-members, the only group of artists who create work for every one of the performing arts disciplines, this is a unique occasion to interact with your peers. For the new music field, your presence and input at NPAC is vital.
And there’s more to be gained from attending. There will be in-depth workshops, break-out sessions, engaging speakers, performances, and endless networking opportunities. AMC, ACF, and Meet The Composer will host a welcome orientation for our members—we look forward to meeting you. Most importantly, during the convention we will release the preliminary results of “Taking Note,” our joint study on the field of new music in this country today.
We invite you to browse the pages of our conference website to learn about all of the new music offerings at NPAC. You can find discounts on hotels and airfare.
This is truly a fantastic opportunity for composers and the new music community as a whole. Come learn from leading professionals, share your insights and experiences, and walk away with new connections and increased knowledge, having made your mark. We hope to see you in Denver!
